Zesco United have been nominated for the Caf Club of the Year award following an impressive performance that saw them reach the semi finals of the 2016 Caf Champions League.
Rank outsiders at the start of the competition, Zesco started their fairytale journey by seeing off South Sudan's Al-Ghazala in the preliminary round and went on to reach the group stage after they eliminated Horoya AC (Guinea) and State Malien (Mali) in the first and second rounds respectively.
They were not expected to come out of Group A which contained record winners Al Ahly (Egypt) as well as two other previous winners in Asec Mimosas (Ivory Coast) and Wydad Athletic Club (Morocco) but overcame all odds by recording two wins, three draws and one defeat to reach the semis.
They won their semifinal home tie 2-1 but lost the second leg 2-0 to eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) to bow out 3-2 on aggregate.
Overall they played 14 matches in which they recorded eight wins, three draws and three defeats.
The other teams nominated for the award are Caf Cheague champions Mamelodi Sundowns, losing finalists Zamalek as well as 2016 Caf Confederations Cup finalists TP Mazembe (Congo DR) and Mo Bejaia (Algeria).
