The Zambia U20 men's national football team booked a place in the 2016 Cosafa U20 semifinals after defeating Malawi 3-0 in their Group B match played at the Moruleng Stadium on Sunday.
Man-of-the-Match Chrispin Sakulanda opened the scoring in the 26th minute after breaking from the left wing and combining with Edward Chilufya before curling his effort beyond Christopher Mikuwa in goal for Malawi.
Patson Daka increased Zambia's advantage in the 76th minute when he tapped home from Kenneth Kalunga's square pass and Fashion Sakala sealed the points with a low effort at the far post from Sakulanda's cross with five minutes remaining on the clock.
The result took Zambia to 6 points, five clear of Malawi who will play the winner of Group D while Zambia will play the runner-up from that group on Tuesday in what will be dead rubber matches.
Zambia will play against the winner of Group D in the second semi-final scheduled for Moruleng Stadium at 19h30 on Wednesday.
Coach Beston Chambeshi said it was good to score a lot of goals for the second match running in the competition.
"It was a nice game; Malawi came into the match needing a point but we were too good for them. I thank the boys for scoring three goals. It is nice that we won again today," Chambeshi said.
And Malawi U20 coach Gerald Phiri said his boys seemed jittery but he was happy with their display.
"We learnt a lot from this match. As you saw my boys were a bit shaky because of the Zambians' height. Overall, we gave a grand fight although we lost. Am happy with the performance," he said.
