Nkana have announced changes in roles of their coaching staff by elevating hitherto assistant coach Zeddy Saileti to the position of head coach and Aggrey Chiyangi to the new position of Technical Director.
Nkana Chief Executive Officer Kenny Mwansa confirmed in a telephone interview with fazfootball.com on Monday that Saileti had replaced immediate former head coach Chiyangi who was now in charge of all football matters at the club under his new role.
“Saileti has been our player at Nkana, played professional football in Finland and he has been assistant coach to Linos Makwaza, Masauso Mwale, Bestone Chambeshi and Aggrey Chiyangi. Our mission in 2017 is to win silverware and we believe that Saileti will help us improve our performance,” said Mwansa.
In the 2016 season, Chiyangi’s full season as head coach, Nkana were top of the league standings for 14 weeks and held second position for 17 weeks before finishing in third position with 70 points, eleven and two points adrift of champions and runners-up Zanaco and Zesco United respectively.
“We have not fired Mr. Chiyangi. What we have done is to elevate Mr. Saileti to the position of head coach while Mr Chiyangi has been given the advisory role of Director of Football in which he will be the in charge of all football matters. In his new position Mr. Chiyangi will give advice to both the technical bench and the executive committee on football matters. In the interim, while we are outlining his duties, he will act as the go-between for the technical bench and the executive committee,” said Mwansa.
Mwansa added that Chiyangi by virtue of the seniority of his new role will attend technical and executive committee meetings at the club.
Chiyangi had held the position of head coach since 26 May, 2015, winning 30 and losing 15 out of the 56 matches he was in charge of.
Mwansa also confirmed that second assistant coach Gift Kampamba had been promoted to the position of first assistant coach. Youth team coach Billy Mwanza was promoted to second assistant coach while Kennedy Kalale continued in his position as goalkeeper coach.
