Napsa Stars set Super League pace

Napsa Stars are the early leaders in the MTN FAZ Super League after they defeated Nchanga Rangers 3-0 at the Edwin Imboela Stadium on Saturday.

They lead the standings on goal difference from Green Eagles and Lumwana Radiants through a second half brace by Chitiya Mususu and Luka Banda’s strike on the stroke of half time.

Banda opened the scoring on the stroke of half time after he nodded home following a corner delivered by Collins Sikombe. Mususu increased the advantage in the 78th minute before putting the icing on the cake in additional time.

Victory for Napsa Stars means they are unbeaten in two league matches extending to last season while for Nchanga Rangers today’s defeat was their second in a row, having lost their last match of last season 3-2 to Kabwe Warriors.

There were two other victories recorded in matches played on Saturday with Green Eagles and Lumwana Radiants recording 1-0 victories over City of Lusaka and Forest Rangers respectively.

Andrew Phiri gave Eagles all three points when he converted a penalty in the 19th minute after City of Lusaka goalkeeper Joseph Phiri brought down Greenwell Witika in the area.

Meanwhile it was Chiyesu Sakafunya who scored in the second half for the side from North Western to record a third victory over Fole Malembe, today’s result mirroring the result recorded on 30th July, 2016. Lumwana’s other victory over Forest Rangers was a 2-1 win on 2nd April 2016.

There were four draws recorded with new comers Real Nakonde and Buildcon playing out a goalless draw.

Champions Zanaco played out a 1-1 draw against 10-man Red Arrows as did Nkana with Nakambala Leopards while Nkwazi came from behind to draw 2-2 at Kabwe Warriors.

Bruce Musakanya had given Arrows a 20th minute lead after he tapped home from close range but the league’s highest scoring defender from last season, Ziyo Tembo, equalized with a low effort from outside the box five minutes later.

Arrows had captain Bronson Chama sent off in the 48th minute for a raised boot challenge on Ernest Mbewe.

At the Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe, new signings Clement Mwape and Nicholas Mulilo scored in the 47th and 55th minutes but Kalaba Chikwanda pulled a goal back on the hour mark. The comeback was completed in the 87th minute with the equalizer arriving through Chipungu Musukuma.

Action continues on Sunday with a double header at the National Heroes Stadium where Green Buffaloes will play Mufulira Wanderers in the first match while Lusaka Dynamos will welcome Power Dynamos in the second match.
