Buffaloes gore Wanderers, Dynamos hold Power

Green Buffaloes moved to the summit of the MTN FAZ Super League level on goal difference with Napsa Stars after they defeated Mufulira Wanderers 3-0 in the first match of the double header played at the National Heroes Stadium on Sunday.

Green Buffaloes dominance in this fixture was extended thanks to an own goal by Wayne Museba and a goal apiece from Mike Katiba and Diamond Chikwekwe.

Wanderers’ defender Museba got his bearings wrong as he nodded the ball into his own net on 15 minutes from a corner delivered by Emmanuel Museka and Katiba scored against his former employers twenty minutes later when the visitors failed to clear a free kick floated into the area by Museka for the hosts to lead 2-0 at the break.

After the break, Wanderers almost pulled a goal back from a free kick delivered on target by Joseph Kanema but Davy Kaumbwa was alert to tip the ball over and behind for a corner.

Both sides made changes inside ten minutes of the restart with Felix Sunzu replacing Mabvuto Daka for the hosts while Zambia U20 midfielder Chrispine Sakulanda replaced Guily Manziba.

However, it was Malani Gondwe who had replaced Happy Kaunda in the 75th minute who made impact as he provided the assist for Chikwekwe’s goal a minute after coming on.

The victory meant that Bilton Musonda’s men joined Napsa Stars at the summit on goal difference from Green Eagles and Lumwana Radiants who recorded 1-0 victories on Saturday.

In the second match at the same venue, hosts Lusaka Dynamos gave away a 2-0 half time lead to draw 3-3 with Power Dynamos.

Chrispine Mugalu opened the scoring on 31 minutes after he headed past Joshua Titima at the near post following a thrown-in by Anthony Abaluwa.

Clatous Chama made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time after he turned Allan Kamwanga inside out as both Francis Kasonde and Billy Mutale closed in but the skillful midfielder had enough time to slot home a low effort at the near post just before the half time whistle.

Danny Kabwe made two half time changes as he replaced Luka Lungu with Kennedy Mudenda while Martin Phiri came on for Larry Bwalya and the tactics paid off as both players were involved the visitors’ three goals.

Phiri provided the assists for the two quick fire goals which were both scored in the 54th minute by Godfrey Ngwenya and Fwayo Tembo.

The comeback was launched when Ngwenya fired home with a scorching effort after he was set up at the top of the box by Phiri and before Lusaka Dynamos realized what had hit them Phiri had released Tembo for an equalizer.

Power Dynamos were always in the ascendancy following the equalizer and looked like the side likely to score every time the ventured forward as they registered several efforts on target which were mostly turned behind for corners by goalkeeper Monga Ndala.

However, Phiri was not to be denied in the 73rd minute when Lusaka Dynamos failed to clear a corner.

In a sweeping move started outside the Lusaka Dynamos area, Francis Kasonde found a pass to Mudenda who then set up Phiri who had a lot to do as he had lost balance inside the box but still picked himself up to unleash an effort which went in from the underside of the crossbar.

With Power Dynamos looking like they were good for all three points, Kasonde’s foul on Mugalu gave a chance to launch an attack on the visitors’ goal in additional time. Although the free kick was defended, Power Dynamos did not do enough to avoid a corner.

It was from the corner that Godfrey Chibanga equalized with a bullet header for the two dynamos to share the spoils in this entertaining thriller.
