16 Players report for U20 camp

The Zambia U-20 Men’s Football National Team commenced the final leg of preparations for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 with 16 players reporting to camp.

Assistant coach Bilton Musonda led the lads through the paces at Miller Grounds in Lusaka’s Lilayi area.

New call ups Ngosa Sunzu who plies his trade in Israel for Hapoel Ra’anana, Leonard Mulenga (Green Buffaloes), Prince Bwalya (Green Buffaloes), Wayne Museba (Mufulira Wanderers) and Patrick Ngoma (Red Arrows) were among the early players to join camp.

Lusaka Dynamos’Conlyde Luchanga who missed out on the Adidas Invitational Tournament has also linked up with the team.

Assistant coach Bilton Musonda told that the team was ready for the challenge at the FIFA World Cup.

 “We regrouped yester night (Wednesday) and the turnout is good although we are missing some players,” Musonda said.

He expressed satisfaction with the condition of the players he had seen so far.

“Most of them played their first games. The physical condition is good. We will wait for more to come,” he said.

Coach Beston Chambeshi has announced a 30 member provisional squad that includes new call ups that were not part of the Cosafa and Africa Cup of Nations winning team.

 The team is tentatively scheduled to leave for Spain on April 23 for a training camp prior to heading to South Korea.

The team will be holed up in Spain until they head to South Korea with a number of practice matches in the pipeline.

Chambeshi will take 21 players for the final tournament in South Korea.

Zambia is in Group C alongside Portugal, Costa Rica and Iran and will be based on the Island of Jeju.

The opening fixture will be against Portugal on May 21, 2017 at the 29, 346 capacity Jeju World Cup stadium, with the second fixture happening three days later against Iran before concluding their group matches with a tie against Costa Rica at Cheonan Sports Complex on May 29, 2017.
