We will plan for next game, Chambeshi

U20 National Team coach Beston Chambeshi has hailed his team’s come from behind spirit after beating Germany 4-3 to storm the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup.

Zambia was made to sweat for the result after having come from a goal down in the first half but rallied back to lead 3-1 before Germany equalized in the death of full time.

Chambeshi’s ‘Dream Team’ has on two occasions had to come from behind to win matches at the FIFA World Cup having overcome Iran from a 2-0 deficit to end the game 4-2 and did the same against Germany after having down 1-0 before the half time break to eventually win 4-3.

The soft spoken trainer told a post match briefing that the most important thing in Wednesday’s knockout match was to qualify to the quarter finals.

“They (Germans) had a strong team, physically they are good but tactically at least my team was better. We capitalized on that and I am happy with the way they (Zambia) are playing,” said an elated Chambeshi.

“We scored three goals in the second half which is a sign that we have a sharp frontline and of course did not expect that Germany will play those long balls and it was not easy for my players but thanks we have won the game.”

He said that the team will now focus on the next match on Monday where they will face either Italy or France.

“...today was a knockout, the most important thing was about qualifying, and then we will plan for the next game,” he said.

“It is a win but there are some loopholes where we have to improve but there are some good things too.”

Chambeshi also noted the impact second half substitute Edward Chilufya had on the match with the assist that launched Zambia back in the game that Mwepu miscued but mercifully fell to Emmanuel Banda.

“We brought in Edward Chilufya and he brought in life and we equalized,” he said.

The Zambia U-20 recorded a historic feat by being the first age team to qualify to the quarter finals of any FIFA tournament.
